Q: What is Music Therapy?
MT = RELATIONSHIPS
Why is it important to distinguish therapeutic music from "music therapy"?
"Music therapy" is distinct from other uses of
music sound vibrations, music strategies, recordings or activities!
First, Music Therapy is a profession with a code of
ethics and research base.

Next, Music therapists undergo extensive academic and clnical training before they are certified. Many take up advanced training, specializations and continuing ed. certifications.
Further, professional music therapists are concerned about public safety, understand childhood development, and have strategies to support emotional and psychosocial processes.
Music therapists facilitate live music experiences based on your individual preferences and needs, and adapt them to your skill level--in other words, music skills are an asset but not necessary to benefit from music therapy.
MUSIC THERAPY IS GOAL AND OUTCOME-BASED!
What does Music Therapy involve?
ASSESSMENT: strengths/coping skills, needs, responses to music
TREATMENT PLANNING: establish goals and objectives for music therapy to be implemented
MUSIC THERAPY SESSIONS: experiences may be in a group context, or 1-1
EVALUATION: observed and documented progress leads to re-assessment, recommendations for home programmes,
or termination of services.
